Contemporary Music Week
ilSUONO Contemporary Music Week is a grassroots new music initiative, founded in 2016. It’s a collaboration of the Italian ensemble Suono Giallo and Greek composer Theocharis Papatrechas.
ilSUONO’s core objective is to provide up-and-coming young composers with a unique forum in which participants polish musical skills through private instruction and composition seminars with renowned composers from elite institutions, and have performance opportunities by highly skilled new music instrumentalists for quality portfolio built up.
ilSUONO forms a summer music composition course in which the participant composers:
• work privately with the composers-in-residence both during and prior to the forum
• participate in master-classes and organized discussions held by the composers-in-residence around topics concerning composition and electronic music
• work closely with the instrumentalists of both the ensemble-in-residence and guest ensembles
• write new works to be extensively rehearsed and premiered by the ensemble-in-residence
• have additional performance opportunities by the guest ensembles
Ultimately, ilSUONO celebrates the art of contemporary music and its diversity. Instrumentalists and ensembles from around the globe are invited to Città di Castello to present their performative perspectives and artistic aesthetics and work side by side contemporary composers, producing the music of our times.
New Commission 2019
We are pleased to announce the 2018-19 Ensemble's collaboration with the French composer Raphaël Cendo. In Spring 2018, we commissioned Raphaël the composition of a brand new work to be premiered in the context of the ilSuono Contemporary Music 4th edition. The score is published by the Maison ONA publishing house.
Raphaël's new work for flute, saxophone, percussion, piano will receive its world premiere at the edition's opening concert, which will take place on Sunday, July 14, 2019 at 6.30pm at Teatro Comunale in Città di Castello, Italy.
Contemporary Music Festival
The Ensemble Suono Giallo conceived ilSuono Festival with the aim of divulging and promoting contemporary music. During this first edition, there will be three concerts exploring new approaches in style, technique, and performance so as to familiarize the public with the fascinating expressive language of contemporary music. Città di Castello and the Alta Valle del Tevere have long been internationally renown for their high standards in musical offerings. The festival and the summer composition course IlSuono Academy both intend to advance this trend further by spearheading a vanguard contemporary music dimension into the extant cultural fabric.
