
GIACOMO PIERMATTI - double bass
Giacomo Piermatti was born in Foligno (PG) in 1986. He studied double bass with Daniele Roccato and Stefano Scodanibbio. Strongly attracted to contemporary music, he worked on the most significant solo repertoire of 900 ( Sequenza XIVb - Luciano Berio, Theraps - Iannis Xenakis, Mantram - Giacinto Scelsi, Folia - Kaijia Saariaho, Esplorazione del bianco - Salvatore Sciarrino, Lem - Franco Donatoni, Geografia Amorosa - Stefano Scodanibbio etc) that he played in numerous international festival as Rassegna di Nuova Musica - Macerata, Artescienza - Roma, Basseurope – Amsterdam, Crisalide – Forlì, Italian Istitute of Colture - Beijing etc.
He is a member of "Ludus Gravis", a unique ensemble only composed of double basses and devoted to the performance of contemporary music. With this ensemble he has taken part in numerous international festivals such as “Musica D’Hoy” di Madrid, “Rassegna di Nuova Musica” di Macerata, “Angelica” di Bologna, “Music of Changes” di Claipeda, “Gaida” di Vilnius, “Imago Dei” di Krems, “La Biennale” di Venezia, “Borealis” di Bergen, “Vinterfestuka” di Narwik, Lux Aeterna di Amburgo, Ad Lucem di Riga. He played first performances of pieces by Sofia Gubaidulina, Hans Werner Henze, Jay Schwartz, Gavin Bryars, Stefano Scodanibbio, Nicolas Tzortzis, Gerard Pape, Filippo Perocco, Fabio Cifariello Ciardi etc. He has been active in the experimental music scene and has taken part in several improvisations led, among others, by Giancarlo Schiaffini, Julio Estrada, Vinko Globokar and Butch Morris. In the field of avant-garde theatre, he worked with Emilia Romagna Teatro and China National Peking Opera Company, CRT (Milano) and Masque Teatro (Forlì). In 2013 he played with the Lucerne Festival Academy and was conducted, among others, by Pablo Heras-Casado and David Robertson. He worked with Klangforum Wien, Ex Novo Ensemble, Edison Studio. He recorded for Wergo and Ecm.
